In 1999, Mental Health Mental Retardation of Tarrant County (MHMRTC) established
the Office of Consumer Affairs to give consumers and family members a voice.
Assistance Offered
The Office of Consumer Affairs assists consumers and family members by:
Giving information about mental health and mental retardation issues and services
Providing education and supports necessary for achieving self-determination through
advocacy
Mission
The mission of the Office of Consumer Affairs is to involve consumers and family
members in all areas of center planning and offers:

Leadership/advocacy training

Referrals to various support groups and advocacy organizations

Assistance with concerns, questions, or suggestions about MHMRTC services and policies

Opportunities for representation on workgroups and committees impacting your services
- Support in dealing with your diagnosis
