Is there a waiting list?
There is a waiting list for some non-emergency services. Some programs are limited
in the number of people that can be served. These programs maintain waiting lists
which are prioritized based on clinical need.
How long does it take to get an appointment?
Routine eligibility appointments are available within 14 days or sooner if clinically
indicated. At the conclusion of that appointment, an appointment is made for eligible
individuals to see a doctor.
How do I get to see the doctor?
Visits with the doctor are scheduled after an applicant's needs are assessed and
the person is found to be eligible for services and in need of treatment.
What if I can’t pay for services?
Each person requesting services is assessed regarding their ability to pay. Fees
are calculated based on a sliding scale. In some cases, no fee is assessed. Patients
who have third party coverage for care such as Medicaid are expected to use their
benefits.
What if I can’t afford the medications?
The cost of medications is included in the assessment of a person's ability to pay.
Medications are provided at no cost if the assessment indicates that the person
has no ability to pay.
Can I go to any clinic?
Consumers are provided a choice of service providers and locations when possible.
I need information concerning Social Security Income. Can you help?
The screener will ask if caller is a current client, if so the client is told to
contact their caseworker. If not a client, the individual is given the number to
Department of Human Services, as this is the first step in applying for Social Security
Income.
Crisis Line hours?
You can call the I-CARE Call Center (formerly called Crisis Line) 24 hours day/365 days a year.
What is the difference between mental illness and mental retardation?
Mental retardation occurs before age 18 with an IQ of 70 or below. Mental illness
can occur at any time and may be attributed to a chemical, biological, or environmental
change in the person.
How do I get crisis services for family members or myself?
The screener determines what type of crisis the individual is experiencing and makes
the appropriate referral based on this.
